#instalife series – week 2 “#selfie”The teaching from week 2 in 140 characters or less…

1) Recap of Week 1: God is who determines our identity, not how many “likes” we have online!

2) The word “selfie” has a root word, “self.”

3) At the root of sin is SELF. It is the word, “pride.”

4) If we only focus only on people liking us, we lose sight of what God says about us.

5) Focus upon pleasing God and not pleasing people (1 Thessalonians 2:4, Galatians 1:10).

6) Live from God’s approval and not for the approval of people.

7) Stop taking pictures with a motivation to have people PRAISE you. God is who created us.

8) Proverbs 29:26: “Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”

9) Jealousy based upon outward appearance hurts everyone (Proverbs 14:30).

10) Life is not about drawing attention to self, but denying self to follow Jesus (Luke 9:23).

#instalifeseries – week 1 “#NoFilter”The teaching from week 1 in 140 characters or less…

1) God is who determines our identity and worth, not how many likes we have online.

2) Everyone is important to God and in His eyes we are all masterpieces

3) God sees everything: Psalm 139:1: “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me."

4) God is continually present. Psalm 139:7: "I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

5) If we could completely understand God, He wouldn’t be God!

6) God knew us before He made us: Psalm 139:16: "You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book."

7) 1 Samuel 16:7: “Man looks on the outward, but God looks at the heart.”

8) True identity is not finding it in something but in someone, who is Jesus Christ.

9) God has created you as His masterpiece. He doesn’t need a filter to make you look special; you are created in His image.

10) God created you exactly the way that you are. The question is, have you accepted that you are made with God’s filter?

Strong in weakness

I have learned a lot this past year personally and in ministry. This week has been another time in my life where I come to the point of wearing myself out trying to "do." I am a "doer", I love to get into all that i can in my life. My passion is seeing student's lives changed. It drives me. It consumes me a lot of the time. The weakness I have is that I become so consumed with the "ministry" that I miss out on an intentional, intimate relationship with my heavenly Father. I was reminded this morning in 2 Corinthians 12:9,

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

The more I realize my own weakness...the more I realize the areas of my heart that God wants to invade and change into His likeness. I'm so glad that God chooses to use me. I'm simply a dude that is made strong through Christ.

This month's current series on Identity has been good so far. One of the students last night said, "We are not here for earthly things, we are here to love Jesus, know we are special and loved, and to point all people to Christ." I believe this generation of students will impact this world like we have never seen before.
